Production of world-class bare root seedlings

Great trees start with great roots!

Superior bare root seedlings

Forrest Keeling's field grown bare root seedlings are propagated in raised beds with a special system of irrigation and fertilization to promote a fibrous root system. By adhering to strict grading and quality standards, along with superior seed sources, our bare root seedlings offer great results. They are shipped fresh-dug or held under the best modern storage facilities.

Media grown seedlings

Utilizing the initial steps of our patented RPM growing process, media grown seelings are air-root pruned then transplanted to a greenhouse media bed for one season. The result is a transplanted liner with a dense fibrous root system that takes off! Forrest Keeling media-grown liners begin new growth immediately and grow out beautifully--even on tough–to-transplant items.

Building Productive Soil

Our production ground is a loamy loess soil. This wind-blown soil is superior to sandy soils for producing a fibrous root system. Prior to planting a nursery crop, production fields are prepared for two or more years through a rotation of planting hybrid grain sorghums and other crops that are plowed down to build soil humus and fiber.

"Fertigation" with Drip

Overhead sprinklers are the traditional industry standard for practical irrigation of seedbeds. Several years of tests have, however, made us believers in a multi-functional, state-of-the-art drip system developed in Israel. This "Fertigation" system permits us to place water and soluble fertilizer precisely where we want it in the root zone. Check our availability of bare root and media grown seedlings.
