Silphium terebinthinaceum

Prairie Dock

In late summer, this robust perennial blooms with sunflower-like yellow flowers on eight foot tall stalks. Prairie Dock's big, bold, basal leaves grow 24-36 inches tall and make this a worthy addition to the landscape even without the summer blooms. The foliage and flowers of Prairie Dock are wonderful for arrangements while the seedheads attract finches and other songbirds.
