Later in the year, this plant can begin to look bedraggled with stem dieback, leaving sections of the plant with nothing but brown twigs. When this occurs, a hard renovation pruning between late fall and early spring will improve appearance. Either remove a large number of stems completely, or cut back the entire plant to within three to six inches of the ground.
