Bird lovers flock to see our nesting Eurasian Tree Sparrows! The species was brought to the St. Louis, Missouri area in 1870 in an effort to curb insect pests. Its population and range is small making sightings rare, unlike its close relative, the House Sparrow.

Garden Center

From bees to bucks, Forrest Keeling's 'Habitat Headquarters' is your landscape partner

Native trees, shrubs and perennials protect and beautify your farm and home by conserving soil and water, protecting your home from wind and sun, and providing wildlife habitat.

“Everyone loves wildflowers, but not everyone knows the best ways to combine native plants to create beautiful, problem-solving landscapes," explained Kim Lovelace-Young, Forrest Keeling vice-president. “Forrest Keeling Nursery wants to be your Habitat Headquarters! Our Garden Center staff can help you choose the right combination of native plants for your easy, affordable, low-maintenance landscape.

Forrest Keeling offered a garden center for years but recently updated and renamed it ‘Habitat Headquarters’ in honor of their support of native working landscapes for homes and farms.

Hardy native plants,” Kim continued, “evolved over centuries in their environment and provide important conservation benefits and wildlife needs. By adding wildflowers, for example, we can help support pollinators like the honeybee that are critical to our agricultural industry. Similarly, deep-rooted native grasses, shrubs and trees help provide shelter, reduce erosion, slow stormwater runoff and filter pollutants from our air and groundwater.”

Wayne Lovelace, Forrest Keeling president, is excited to bring the Nursery’s conservation expertise to the home and farm.  “From containers to conservation remediation, we have the ‘right recipe’ to help even the inexperienced create attractive, low-maintenance areas from the backyard to the back forty! Native plants are a natural for easy-care landscapes.”
